  • Connection request sent

I met a number of really interesting people at my networking event last week, many of whom I'd love to collaborate with. This meeting is with a fellow creative who's work and part of the industry seems really interesting, so I'm really looking forward to listening and learning more.

  • Baby steps

Look, I would LOVE it is every company got back to me with a "WOW we just so happen to need a female Voiceover with a soft Northern accent, I'll send you the script!" But sadly that's not realistic. When I contact new leads, I'm doing so with the hope they'll want to add me to their roster and will keep me in mind if an appropriate opportunity comes in (hopefully soon). So this was a win. Especially as the company in question produce some awesome content and seem really nice people.

  • Character building

When I first launched my Voiceover business I booked a session with Dian Perry as I'd heard wonderful things about her skill as a coach and as Voiceover Artist. She was unbelievably kind. I was coming from an acting (onscreen/theatre) background and they are very different disciplines, though acting training is extremely useful for Voiceover too. I read for her and she was really impressed. Dian suggests you record you reads before and after her direction so you can hear the difference and remember the wisdom (my words not hers). This was extremely useful advice, but what was equally as powerful was the recordings I had of Dian's positive comments about my performances. Her telling me to get out of my own way, that I had real talent and the only thing that would hold me back was me. I'll always been grateful for this kindness. I love character acting, I love to embody a new character, understand their motivations, feel their physicality and find their voice. This is an area of Voiceover I plan to do a lot more of, its also an area that Dian excels in. I've been thinking about it for awhile and I've finally booked in my first character development session with her. Watch this space! If you want know more about Dian and her work - which I would heartedly recommend, including info about her epic book, head to dianperry.com

  • Ticked something off

This has been a long time coming! Whilst I've been procrastinating with this task, it was admittedly, pretty gratifying looking though my reviews and choosing which to share on my site. I am so grateful to all the clients who have taken time out of their busy days to leave me a review. It means the world. As a consumer, I also know how important testimonials are. What's the first thing you do when you're checking out a new product/place to stay/service? You check the reviews. Check out a few of mine on my Testimonials page.

  • Cue happy dance

It's absolutely crucial to me that each time a client works with me they come away 100% happy with my performance, and having found the experience as easy and as enjoyable as possible. Reviews are so important, particularly to small businesses so if you're happy with that Etsy order, your latte at your local or you Voiceover recording, please spread the love. You can check out some of my client reviews on my testimonials page.

  • The Power of people

I went to my first in-person business networking event today and found it really valuable. Everyone I spoke to was open, welcoming and keen to collaborate. It was great to meet other local businesses and people all working to make themselves and others a success. It had a real community feel and I met more than one person keen to potentially use my services, which was a lovely bonus. I would encourage anyone who hasn't already to try and attend a face-to-face networking event if nothing else to meet others in similar situations and help communities thrive.
